Policies and Procedures for Longfellow Tennis Court Usage

The Longfellow Health Clubs are committed to making our club the safest and healthiest place to play tennis!   We were among the first clubs to voluntarily temporarily close our doors on March 15th because it was the right thing to do.  Protecting the health and wellbeing of our staff and members is always our number one priority.

Longfellow understands that tennis is a sport where participation is possible while at the same time practicing safe social distancing.  Longfellow has established several new safety measures and practices in order for tennis to be played at Longfellow.   Members and staff are required to comply with these policies to ensure the club is a safe place.

Below are answers to questions you might have that also detail the newly adopted policies of Longfellow.

What measures is Longfellow taking to ensure the club facilities are safe and virus-free?

  • Longfellow has always had a focus on cleanliness and with the pandemic we have taken extraordinary measures to disinfect the club multiple times during the day.

    • We use only disinfectants approved by the CDC

    • During the day Longfellow staff regularly disinfect all high-touch surfaces at the club

    • Doors are left open when possible and other doors can be opened with a shoulder or hand and then sanitize your hand after in one of the many hand sanitizing stations.

  • Longfellow recommends that all people entering apply hand sanitizer available at the Welcome Desk.

  • Longfellow recommends that all members and staff wash their hands before playing tennis and after playing tennis.

  • Hand sanitizing stations are located at the Welcome Desk, near the entrance to each bank of tennis courts, and at other places throughout the club.

How do I reserve and pay for a lesson or clinic?

We are happy to say that now that MA is in Phase III, everyone is permitted to play on Longfellow indoor courts.

  • Registrations for private and semi-private lessons will be made with the tennis professional.

  • Clinics and small groups will be made through the Director of Tennis or an associate.

  • It is recommended that members have a credit card on file to book a lesson or clinic.  We will accept checks or cash.

  • Lessons or clinics not canceled with 24 hours or more notice will be charged for the full price of the lesson or clinic.

Are locker rooms, equipment, and other amenities open for use?

  • Members are allowed to use showers, lockers, toilets, and sinks.

  • The use of the steam, sauna, and whirlpool is not allowed until Phase IV of the MA regulations.

  • Fitness equipment is available for use.

  • Water fountains at the club will only be available for filling water bottles.

What is Longfellow’s Policies Regarding Mask Wearing?

  • Masks must be worn by all members, visitors, and staff while inside the club or walking from the parking lot to the club, and to and from your reserved tennis court.  Masks are not required to be worn when playing tennis.

What are the new normal practices for playing tennis at the club?

In consultation with the health club trade association (IHRSA), the Longfellow Health and Safety Consultant, management team, tennis professionals, and tennis industry leaders, we have created the following sanitary and social distancing set of practices that will be enforced at the club.  These include:

  • Applying sanitary disinfectant on your hands at the front desk when entering the club is recommended.

  • When possible movement in the club will be directed down one-way aisles clearly marked.

  • One parent/chaperone may observe a player while sitting in a chair six feet apart from others.  Face coverings are required at all times by parents/chaperones.

  • Players should leave their car no more than 10 minutes before your scheduled court time.

  • Players must enter and exit the proper court through the court curtain door and not cut across courts.

  • When players are finished playing, they need to go directly to their car unless they need to use the toilet facilities.

  • No touching of any type--handshakes, high fives, hugs, etc.

  • Players must keep a minimum of 6 feet apart at all times and social distancing will be strictly enforced.

  • All players are requested to bring a small bag for essential tennis items and rackets.

  • We have taken down all score cards as we work to eliminate as many touches with hands as possible.

  • Please leave ball containers or other waste in the trash containers on the court.

Play Like the Pros

with Zip Tennis

Check out this overlay showing the similarities in rally length, rally tempo and footwork with red ball and pro players. You won't see these similarities by placing 7-8 year olds on the full court! Start your child out right and check out our Zip Tennis programs at the Zip Zone in Wayland and at the Natick Racquet Club. We also have match play (it might not look quite like this... yet) most weekends! Come check us out and get your child started right.
