HAMMEL TENNIS CAMP

Inspiring a Lifelong Love for Tennis

At the Hammel Tennis Camp, we love teaching children to play tennis! It is incredibly rewarding to watch young players grow as individuals while learning new skills, gaining confidence, and improving their game. Our program blends a commitment to excellence with daily lessons in good sportsmanship, all within a high-energy, supportive, and fun environment.

Now entering our 54th summer, Hammel Tennis Camp continues to build on decades of experience and the comprehensive Longfellow training system. We truly believe that even one week of camp can have a meaningful, positive impact on a young player’s tennis development. Campers receive coaching in every area of the game—strokes, speed and footwork, strategy, physical conditioning, and the mental and emotional skills that make tennis a lifelong sport.

Our Philosophy

We believe tennis is more than a sport — it’s a lifelong tool for growth, connection, and confidence. Our philosophy centers on five core principles that guide everything we do:

  • Comprehensive Development – We teach the whole player: body, mind, and heart.
  • Positive Coaching – Encouragement fuels improvement and confidence.
  • Team Spirit – Friendship, teamwork, and laughter make every day better.
  • Proven Progression – Players advance through age-appropriate levels and challenges.
  • Inclusive Fun – Every child belongs here, no matter their starting point.
  • Match Play – Learn to compete, grow, and have fun.

Legacy

Founded by Laury Hammel, the camp’s legacy is built on a belief that great coaching goes beyond tennis. For more than 50 years, Hammel Tennis Camp has helped young athletes discover their potential — on the court and in life.

“I had the best summer of my life and I spent the majority of my summer at the Hammel Tennis Camp. Every single one of the coaches had suggestions on how to improve, and all of the campers were so nice. Not only did I get a great opportunity to improve, I was able to meet so many new people. I can’t wait to go back next summer!”
– Isabella Glaser, Camper

“I signed my 13-year-old son up for Hammel Camp this past summer not knowing exactly what to expect. He loved Hammel Camp! The drills were fun, he enjoyed playing with kids of different ages and skill levels, and his game noticeably improved. By the end of the week, he asked to sign up for more sessions and do tennis camp all summer next year.”
– Parent of a 2024 High School/Pre-High School Hammel Summer Tennis Camper
